I've been on a wonderful musical journey - it all began when I chanced upon the
Association of North Country Fiddlers web site and heard a great rendition of "Pig Ankle Rag" Sequenced by Ed Hetzler. Is rendition the right description for a MIDI file? No matter, its good music that gets the toes tapping.
Anyway, I clicked on the link to Ed Hetzler's site,
The Hetzler Fakebook. What a gold mine!
Described as an Internet resource for beginning through intermediate fiddle, banjo, mandolin, guitar and dulcimer players, it is full of midi files for Old Time and Celtic tunes, and members can get sheet music in standard musical notation.
Ed has provided a nice link resource and I next found myself at
The Banjo Hangout. This site has loads of Banjo tablatures and lessons, some of which are accompanied by a Midi file; so after overdosing on "Dueling Banjos", I moved on to another huge resource,
The ezfolk.com site.
This site is big, plenty of free tablature for folk guitar, banjo, ukulele, and harmonica, most with free MP3s.
Then to finish my travels I went to
Fiddle Farmers; what a nice site, they have everything that fiddle players could wish for including a listing of Sessions around the world. I found more Midi files and ended the night with strains of the "Gypsy Rover". Great stuff and some good real life venues to visit in the future.
