Experience Music Project

We have launched an American centric site 'The Activity Vacations Guide' so that the Activity Holidays Guide can focus on Europe and the 'English' speaking world! Generally, news of interest to US music lovers will now be posted in their own blog Behind the Green Door.

However, sometimes there is a post that might interest musos on the other side of the pond, in which case it will be copied or linked from here.

Such a case is the Experience Music Project in Seattle, who describe themselves as a 'one of a kind' music museum combining interactive and interpretive exhibits to tell the story of the creative, innovative and rebellious expression that defines American popular music.

Conceived by Paul G. Allen and Jody Patton, EMP's collection has more than 80,000 artifacts which helped shape music history, including numerous musical instruments such as one of the first electric guitars and guitars used by artists such as Bob Dylan, Bo Diddley, Muddy Waters and Kurt Cobain. It also features an extensive recorded sound archive, film, photographs, fanzines from around the world, stage costumes, handwritten song lyrics and rare song sheets.

The whole experience looks worthy of a planned visit and their new exhibition 'Bob Dylan's American Journey 1956-1966' reviewed by Dave Hoekstra, Staff Reporter, Chicago Sun-Times provides a further incentive.
