Xmas on Paradise Summit

Something different for Christmas.

China Daily reports a A Guangzhou group is seeking 20 mountain climbers from throughout China to challenge a 1,210-meter summit in Conghua Shimen National Forest Park on Dec. 25 and 26; Guangzhou seeks climbers with courage

From the description, I don't think that it will be a picnic. The only surviving original forest in Guangzhou, it has been out of bounds to humans for the past 50 years and is the habitat of wild animals.

Christmas of course, does not feature in the Chinese festival calendar but the winter solstice Dongzhi on 22 December is treated as a major festival.

This celebration can be traced to the Chinese belief in yin and yang, which represent balance and harmony in life. It is believed that the yin qualities of darkness and cold are at their most powerful at this time, but it is also the turning point, giving way to the light and warmth of yang. For this reason, the Dong Zhi Festival is a time for optimism. Quoted from Hong Kong Tourism Board

Last year, Jian Shuo Wang wrote a nice piece about Dongzhi in his blog and provides a diagram relating it to the Yin-Yang symbol.
