Ellen Macarthur is now over a third of the way in to her attempt to break the record for sailing a multihull around the world non-stop. The time to beat is 72 days 22 hours 54 minutes 22 seconds, set by French sailor, Francis Joyon, on board the 90-foot multihull IDEC in February 2004.
Having covered 9654 miles on the 25th morning, Ellen is just 20 hours ahead as she heads on an easterly course at 18 knots in a 30 knot north-west wind but a storm is brewing so
Christmas could be far from a silent night. You can follow Ellen's progress on
Team Ellen, which comes complete with web cams.
'Tis the season to be ..........
a little light in the head and decide that it would be fun to sail or even row around the world.
Rowing the big oceans seems to be becoming fairly commonplace for a section of the WetAss community and the
Ocean Rowing Society keep tabs on whose doing what, where.
I even heard of one adventurer who is planning to row around Antarctica; his reasoning being that it is the shortest circumnavigation route! Only 600 days rowing.
On the yachting front, you can follow the fortunes of both the
Global Challenge and the
Vendee Globe challengers on their respective sites.
