Roxy Pro Womens Surfing Festival

Young Victorian surfer, Amy Stewart from Torquay had a great opening day (21 Jan) at the Roxy WQS Pro at Woolamai. Amy won her heats in both the Open WQS Roxy Pro and the Roxy Pro Junior today in what was described as a very impressive performance in solid, challenging 1.5 to 2m swells.

Australia?s original Queen of the Waves, Pam Burridge, will line up against competitors half her age when she makes her return to the professional surfing arena in round 2, tomorrow; five years after her last serious professional contest.

Promising a fantastic week of surfing on Phillip Island, the 68 woman Roxy Pro WQS Womens Surfing Festival line-up also features newly crowned ASP womens World Champion Sofia Mulanovich (Peru) and defending two-time Roxy Pro WQS Womens Surfing Festival champion Chelsea Georgeson (Gold Coast, Aus), 1993 world champion Pauline Menczer (Aus), World Championship Tour (WCT) seeds Samantha Cornish (Aus), Rebecca Woods (Aus), Claire Bevilacqua (Aus) and recently crowned Quiksilver ISA World Junior champion Stephanie Gilmore (Aus). Excellent waves are expected, so there should be a fair bit of distraction to the tennis in Melbourne!
