I chanced upon the website of
Singapore's National Parks Board; an exciting and extensive site for the
active tourist.
Overnight camping is allowed (without permits) in the following parks:
Changi Beach Park
East Coast Park (Areas B, F & G)
Pasir Ris Park
Sembawang Park
West Coast Park
and also allowed at Noordin and Mamam Beaches at Pulau Ubin (It seems that the area was spared the Tsunami).
The parks offer numerous recreational activities, including birdwatching, trekking and horticulture. You can jog on tracks through the parks, exercise your muscles at the fitness stations or practise group Tai Chi in the open areas.
In-line skating is encouraged on the bicycle tracks and if you don't have a pair of skates, you are able to hire them from the parks. Cycling tracks abound in the parks and yes, there are bicycle kiosks where you can rent a bicycle!
Park Connectors are green corridors that take you from park to park through shady shortcuts and nature sites.
Those that want a really tough challenge can take their hiking boots or mountain bikes to Bukit Timah Nature Reserve or Pulau Ubin. These feature rough and raw tracks traversing steep slopes and crossing into some of Singapore's wilderness and outback sites.
Finally, you can head out to the open seas for big-game fishing, or alternatively, once more use the park amenities; in common with many people around the world, recreational fishing is a popular past time for many Singaporeans and the parks have well stocked lakes for angling.
