Tsunami Surf Relief UK

The British surfing community has joined together in an effort to provide long term help to the communities that were shattered by the Asian tsunami disaster.

UK surfing connections throughout the Indian Ocean region are well established, especially in Indonesia and Sri Lanka, where last year?s Champions contest was held. Dave Reed of the British Surfing Association explains: "Many British surfers, professional and amateur alike, have spent time in Asia and know the areas and often the local families affected by this terrible disaster. They desperately want to show their support and give something back to those communities and Tsunami Surf Relief will provide a focus for that. Our aim is to support long term projects, using our local contacts and aid organisations on the ground to identify and deliver relief to specific communities."

The group has already announced a Surf Relief Day on 9th April 2005 when coordinated surf events, contests and sponsored activities will take place around the UK.

Their website www.tsunamisurfrelief.co.uk is still under construction but keep an eye on it for further information and updates.
