The Austrian valley of the Bregenzerache river has a characteristic Alpine beauty with softly-rolling foothills and majestic mountains, mixed forests, high-Alpine coniferous woods and quiet flower-dotted meadows and pastures.

Through this stunning landscape winds a narrow road to the small town of Schwarzenberg which lies in the heart of Bregenz Forest. As you continue into the centre of the town, the road is flanked by blossoming trees leading to the Angelika Kauffmann Hall.
This is the home of the Schubertiade, the most significant and distinguished Schubert festival in the world.
Running throughout the summer, dates for 2005 are 13-16 May, 10-27 June, 13-17 July and 24 August-10 September.
CultureVulture have published an extensive review of the festival and region, including a note about accommodation available to visitors.
Between the music, there are numerous other activities on offer, such as river-rafting, bungee jumping, golf, rock-climbing, horseback riding, fishing, nature tours and of course hiking.
Sounds like the sort of summer you could get addicted to.
