Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A only came in third behind 1st place, Rachmaninov's second piano concerto and 2nd place, Vaughan Williams' A Lark Ascending in
Classic FM's Hall of Fame. The results of the poll, published over the Easter weekend, name the UK's 300 most popular pieces of classical music for 2005, as voted for by listeners.
However,
Mozart took the prize for the composer with the most entries in the list, with 21 compositions making the top 300.
Next year sees the 250th anniversary of Mozart's birth and in celebration the
Salzburg Festival is preparing a massive program, from a New Year's Concert through
Whitsun+Baroque and the summer, which will see
productions of all 22 of the composer's stage works, to his Requiem, which will be performed on the anniversary day of Mozart's death.
