In an
earlier post I reported on the annual Schubertiade festival in the Austrian Alps and it is nice to write about another annual music festival and workshop, the
Kusatsu Music Academy & Festival, this time held in Japan but also celebrating the music of Schubert. The 2005 theme for the Kusatsu festival is
Cities and Music in Germany and also includes work by Weber and Brahms.
It runs August 17th -30th, 2005.
Like the Schubertiade, Kusatsu is located amidst breath-taking scenery and is often called the Tyrol of Japan; famed for its hot springs, it nestles on a highland plateau below Mt. Shirane,
the site of the emerald green caldera lake or hot water lake, which is the most acidic natural water found on the earth.
