If it wasn't happening in San Francisco you would think it was a send up, but it's true, on August 27th, the notoriously steep streets of San Francisco will become the site for an urban big-air competition.
200 tons of snow and a ski jump are to be placed on Fillmore Street for Icer Air 2005; top snowboarders and skiers will compete in a day long event for over $100,000 in cash and prizes.
Incredibly, the event is not that unique in the U.S.A. The
San Francisco Chronicle reports that Berkeley beat San Francisco by a good 71 years. Apparently, in February 1934, the Auburn Ski Club of Truckee put four times the amount of snow headed for Fillmore Street onto the steep slopes of Hearst Avenue, Berkeley just north of the UC Berkeley campus, for a ski jump demonstration.
