The
BMW Art Car Collection is a series of 15 BMW production models transformed from automobile to art by some of the world's foremost artists.
Alex Calder used a 3.0 CSL to create the first BMW Art Car in 1975, just before his death and most recently Jenny Holzer created the BMW V12 Le Mans race car in 1999. Other famous artists who have been commissioned for the collection include Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol and David Hockney.
Contemporary artist Olafur Eliasson has now been commissioned to create the 16th BMW Art Car using the record-breaking hydrogen-powered BMW H2R car as a canvas. The finished work will be unveiled to the public in spring 2007.
