Henri Rousseau at the Tate Modern

Henri Rousseau is sometimes criticized as an artist but he has created some of the most popular and instantly recognizable paintings of modern times and is known to have influenced his contemporaries, Pablo Picasso, René Magritte and Max Ernst.

50 of his works are now on display at the Tate Modern London, which is holding the the first exhibition of his work to be held in the UK for an extraordinary 80 years; it runs through to February 5, 2006 and includes an extensive group of his jungle paintings, together with a comprehensive survey of Rousseau's source materials.
