After the celebrations, young surfers that celebrated the New Year in Sydney, Australia got straight down to business with the
Billabong World Junior Championships at North Narrabeen and even if you can't be there in person, you can view the awesome display of amazing performances being put on by the grommets on live video.
Wednesday was day 5 of the competition and moving through to the final days of the competition, Dion Agius, Beau Walker and Rhys Bombaci did a good job representing the Aussies , Bobby Hansen claimed a great win for the Kiwis, Romain Lauhle did it for the French, Leandro Bastos for the Brazilians and Yujiro Tsuji, who despite being given an open door when Joan Duru (France) incurred injury and had to be carried up the beach, still pushed the limits to become another standout of the day, with a deserved win for the Japanese.
In the girl's competition, Nicola Atherton upset surf starlet, Stephanie Gilmore's progress towards the semi finals. Now, Nicola is hoping that she and her good mate Jessi Miley-Dyer will both make it through for a local girl final.
Thursday, the conditions are expected to remain pretty much the same as Wednesday, with grey sky and some patchy rain squalls but not sufficient to dampen the spirits and plenty of quality walls. Competition starts at 7.30 am local time, which I reckon is 8.30 pm GMT, the day before, and don't forget,
you can access live video from the Billabong site above.
