Jessi Miley-Dyer has been crowned the Billabong World Junior Women's Champion in front of proud family and friends, beating close friend and fellow Bronte Beach, Sydney stablemate Nicola Atherton 14.00 out of 20 to 12.40.
Jessi looked impressive in the semis, in contrast to Nicola, who won through despite being unable to latch on to any high-scoring waves and unfortunately for Nicola, it proved not to be her day. Jessi posted two good scores early in the final and then shut out her desperate rival; Nicola managed an 8.0 but failed to find the necessary 5.83 needed to clinch victory.
