Jack Vettriano, whose painting,
The Singing Butler, sold for £744,800 at Sotheby's in 2004 and who is believed to earn £500,000 a year in royalties from prints and postcards, is not without critics, nor until this week had this hugely popular artist had a permanent exhibition of his work; Kirkcaldy Museum and Art Gallery near his home town of Methil exhibits one of his early paintings but the work is not considered representative of the latter paintings for which he is so well known.
Now, the Portland Gallery, re-located to 8 Bennet Street, London SW1A 1RP, are hanging five of his major works in their new public showroom. The gallery represents Jack Vettriano and has also held regular temporary exhibitions of his work.
