New York City Parks & Recreation organizes many free special events throughout the year when parks become concert venues, movie theaters and stages.
Two such events that caught our eye for next month are:

Central Park Conservancy's annual Earth Day CelebrationThis free event offers fun and educational activities for all ages. There will be live theatrical and musical performances, demonstrations, arts and crafts, games, and special tours; enjoy a picnic lunch. (Rain Date: Sunday, April 23, 2006 - 1 pm - 4 pm)

Drums Along the Hudson: A Native American Festival & Shad FestSunday, Apr 30, 2006, 11:00 am - 6:00 pm, Manhattan
Celebrates the spirit of the drum that is the heart, culture and tradition of the Native American people.
The event features mesmerizing drumming from around the world and includes intertribal social dances like the Round Dance, the Iroquois Smoke Dance, and the Jingle Dance.
