Almost twice as many Australians as other nationalities, will be lining up in the quarter finals of the 2006, Women?s Billabong Pro in Tahiti.
Sofia Mulanovich (PER) won through round three by defeating Jessi Miley-Dyer (AUS), Heather Clark (ZAF) defeated Megan Abubo (HAW) and Keala Kennelly (HAW) 10.17 defeated Samantha Cornish (AUS).
Less than half a point separated Melanie Redman-Carr from her round three opponent, 20-year-old event wildcard Nicola Atherton (AUS). Redman-Carr's two-wave total came to 13.90 out of 20.00 while Atherton, who led for the majority of the heat, was finally defeated by inexperience and ended up just shy with 13.50. Despite having priority, Nicola passed on a wave right at the end of the competition time and an experienced Melanie pounced to make it her highest scoring wave. "
That was extremely close and I was the one fighting all the way because I was behind," said a relieved Redman-Carr.
