In the early hours of this morning, just two days before the prestigious Volvo Ocean Race was due to arrive in Portsmouth, UK, Hans Horrevoets, was swept overboard from the yacht ABN Amro Two. His body was recovered by team-mates but he failed to regain consciousness.
Mr Horrevoets, 32, was from the Netherlands and was an experienced ocean sailor. He was onboard ABN AMRO TWO when they broke the world 24 hour speed record for a monohull in January of this year and
this tragedy serves to remind us all of how dangerous the sea can be.
Hans leaves partner Petra and their daughter, together with many friends in the world of sailing. Words can do little to ease their loss but
messages of condolences can be left on a page provided by the Volvo Ocean Race site.
