Volvo Open 70s are now just over half-way in their race across the Atlantic with an expected time of arrival for race leader ABN AMRO ONE on Saturday 20 May, 2006. Models predict more than 1,000 miles will be covered in the next 48 hours!
Tomorrow morning, after 178 days at sea,
Dee Cafari is expected to become the first woman to sail solo, non-stop around the world against the prevailing winds and currents. A home coming has been arranged at Ocean Village Marina in Southampton, UK, on 21 May, to welcome her back and it is expected that a huge crowd will be there to join in the celebrations.
Portsmouth and Southampton are neighbouring ports, so there will be plenty of partying this weekend amongst Solent sailors.
Leg 8 of the Volvo Open 70 Ocean Race starts from Portsmouth on 2 June, 2006 at 1700 local time.
