It looks as if the trans-Pacific sailing record from West to East is about to be broken,
with the trimaran Geronimo having just 1000 nautical miles to go to the Golden Gate in San Francisco. 1000 nautical miles is just two days sailing for the CapGemini/Schneider Electric trimaran, which has covered 435 nautical miles in the last 24 hours, although they now seem set to run into an enormous bubble of high pressure along the North American coast.
Frenchman Olivier de Kersauson and his 8-man crew (including 6 Frenchmen, one American and an Australian) left Bayside Marina Quay, Yokohama on Monday morning May 29, 2006 just before 10H00 local time, chasing
Bruno Peyron's record of 14 days, 17 hours, 22 minutes and 50 seconds.
