Mick Fanning and Taj Burrow (Aus) both had 8.0 with 4 minutes to go but it proved to be Fanning's day as he executed some searing carves and huge floaters to score an 8.73. Taj only needed an 8.4 to win but he failed to convert the final wave of the day.
