More than 1,300 athletes, together with
Ironman UK 2005 champions, New Zealander Bryan Rhodes and Australian Rebecca Preston, will be at Sherborne Castle, Dorset, on Sunday, August 20th, to compete for the 2006 UK titles.
Bryan Rhodes returns after a stunning performance last year, when he left a high quality professional field standing, finishing a full 25 minutes ahead of second place Francois Chabaud.
Rebecca Preston performed a similar feat in the women's event but she was competing in her very first Ironman race!
The Triathlon consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile bike ride and a 26.2 mile marathon run. The majority of the race is located within the grounds of the Castle with the swim located in the 50-acre lake and the bike and run taking the competitors out towards historic Dorchester and the surrounding area of Dorset and Somerset.
Sherborne Castle (actually, there are two) stands in 40 acres of glorious Capability Brown, landscaped gardens and grounds, which surround a 50 acre lake and was built by Sir Walter Raleigh in 1594.
