While the men have been having fun in Spain, the ASP women's tour has gathered in Sydney, Australia for the inaugural Havaianas Beachley Classic. It will be the richest event in women's surfing history and gets underway tomorrow, Monday, October 9, 2006.

With only three events remaining on the ASP Women's World Tour, this showdown has major implications, both for world title contenders and also girls looking to re-qualify for the 2007 tour. The top four ranking positions are held by Australians but world number one, Melanie Redman-Carr is vulnerable to a challenge from Layne Beachley in the number two spot and Chelsea Georgeson at number three. What's more, Manly is Layne's home ground.
