Weymouth Speed Week got underway today with near gale-force westerly winds. The event at Portland harbour, Weymouth, UK, runs through to Sunday, 8 October, 2006 and sees a variety of sailing craft attempting to break the 50 knot barrier.
Windsurfer Finian Maynard currently holds the World Record, which he claimed on April 10, last year, with a speed of 48.70 knots. Rival, Bjorn Dunkerbeck, is one of the special guests at this weeks event. If your able to get to the south coast of England, go along and watch the action; this year you might witness a historic event.
