In his second ASP World Tour win of 2006, Australian Mick Fanning beat American Damien Hobgood (USA) in the final of the 2006 Nova Schin Festival, Imbituba, Brazil.
Hobgood was last year's winner but Mick raced to an early lead in this year's final, catching nine waves to Hobgood's five and achieving early 9.5 and 9.27 scores, which left Damien chasing a massive combination of scores, way higher than his total 13.10.
This result places Mick Fanning at No. 2 on the Foster's ASP World Tour ratings with fellow Australian Taj Burrow in third place. In a dream start to an ASP World Tour career, Bobby Martinez (USA) has moved up to the No. 4 spot, above Andy Irons (HAW) in 5; Andy lost out at Imbituba in Round three.
The tour now moves to North Shore, Oahu, Hawaii, for the Rip Curl Pipeline Masters, December 8-20, 2006, which is the last ASP World Tour event of 2006.
