This weekend, Saturday 7 and Sunday 4, June, 2007, sees the annual
Blackbeard Pirates Festival at Hampton, Virginia, USA. You can travel back in time to 1718, where the Custom House at the bustling seaport of Hampton, orchestrates a campaign to rid its waters of the notorious Blackbeard. Enjoy lots of pirate themed fun and revelry, including plenty to keep the little swashbucklers entertained and for the older sea dogs, there is the Grand Pirate Ball.
Blackbeard had gained a reputation as the most fearsome and outrageous pirate of the Caribbean and then set about terrorizing ships and citizens along the east coast and Chesapeake Bay. His adventures and image have been romanticised over the years and formed the basis for the popular image of the swashbuckling pirate.
