On February 7, 2008, Chinese and East Asian communities throughout the world will be celebrating the Chinese New Year. 2008 is the Year of the Rat, which is the beginning of the 12 year cycle of Chinese zodiacs, and it is regarded as a year of plenty, bringing good health, opportunities and prospects to everyone. The Year of the Rat is a good year for fresh starts, a change of job, starting a new business, launching a product, moving home or getting married.

So if you have got over celebrating the Gregorian New Year, now is the time to plan your celebrations for the Chinese New Year. I note that Pancake Day or Fat Tuesday falls on February 5, 2008, so the Mardi Gras party season and the Chinese New Year celebrations will be running together.
