Kevin Cooney (tokyocooney) is a writer, comedian and performer born and raised in New York but currently residing in Tokyo, Japan. He has produced this weekend's video, his take on Hanami, the Japanese springtime tradition of having a party under blossoming cherry trees.
I like his comment that there is a lot of ground that he could have covered; its importance in poetry, samurai folk lore and Japanese identity, but that he chose to just record people drinking. Kevin writes,"As much as people try to make it seem deep it really is just an excuse for people to go sit in the park and get blotto." There is also a great line in the commentary, where he describes Hanami as St Patrick's Day with Cherry Blossom.
