Eggsplosive Easter

Every year on the Greek island of Chios, shortly past midnight on the Saturday before Easter Sunday, there takes place a most extra-ordinary event.

FrankandNicole posted this short but explosive video of two rival church parishes battling it out with a most amazing (home made) fireworks competition

Strictly illegal, but I think that the police would not get far if they tried to shut down this very old, traditional Easter custom.

Decorated Eggs

Spring or Easter festivals, which were probably derived from pagan Spring festivals anyway, are celebrated around the world and eggs, the universal symbol of new life, have long featured in the festivities.
Decorated eggs lie in leaves under flowering Daffodils, photographed by Oliver GruenerThe decoration of Easter eggs is a tradition in many cultures and has become an established art form. Eggs may be dyed, painted, carved, decorated with gemstones and ribbons, and even filled with confetti. Enchanted Hen Productions has a nice gallery of designs.
