Unusual Hotels

If you have a sense of adventure and want to stay somewhere different, try Unusual Hotels of the World. It is an interesting online guide that has been put together by a couple of friends, listing hotels around the world that offer their guests something, shall we say, out of the ordinary.

Typical hotels featured in the guide, might accomodate guests underground, inside an igloo, up a tree or even underwater. The website is a truly comprehensive resource for unusual hotels around the world, some of them are pretty famous but there are many hotels which will be new discoveries for the adventurous traveller.

San Francisco City Guides

40 Years ago San Francisco, USA, became synonymous with the 'Summer of Love'. Today this spirit of friendship lives on in the city and one group who reflect this is City Guides. Founded 30 years ago, City Guides is a non-profit organization with more than 200 trained volunteers who lead free, yes free, history and architectural walking tours in San Francisco.

Their motivation is to preserve and perpetuate the history and folklore of San Francisco and to celebrate its rich history of cultural diversity. They are all volunteers who love their city, and enjoy sharing it, so if you're going to San Francisco, be sure to contact the City Guides.

Tours are offered all year, rain or shine. In May and October, they organise additional walks and this October feature some of San Francisco's lesser known neighborhoods. Naturally, there are special Ghost Walks arranged for October 30 and 31, when visitors can enjoy other spirits which are said to pervade the city.

Mississippi Adventure Guide

Mississippi's Gulf Coast is recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina. Major tourist attractions, including world-class golf courses, casinos and outdoor recreational activities such as fishing and canoeing, are again open for business.

The Mississippi Delta is well known as the place that gave birth to the Blues and the Mississippi Blues trail is a pilgrimage for many music lovers, but the state offers a wide variety of recreational opportunities. There are numerous lakes, rivers, streams, reservoirs and over 100 miles of coastline, allowing plenty of opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating, sailing, canoeing or waterskiing. Mississippi also has more than 2 million acres of public hunting lands.

To help tourists find outdoor activities in the state, Mississippi Tourism Development, has produced a comprehensive Adventure Guide. The 300 page guide is expected to benefit hunters and anglers and to also be of value for hikers, bikers, wildlife watchers and other adventurers. You can obtain a free copy of the guide from their web site.

Borat Travel Guide

Suzanne Herz, publisher of Flying Dolphin Press, has announced that Kazakhstan television reporter, Borat Sagdiyev, has signed with them to write a dual title travel guide:'Borat: Touristic Guidings To Minor Nation of U.S. and A." and 'Borat: Touristic Guidings To Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.' Presumably the guide will contrast with established publications by taking a more down to earth look at each countries culture and heritage. Or should we say a more downright earthy approach? Hopefully, Borat will provide valuable insight into the difficult travel restrictions and entry regulations facing tourists, and also pass on tips to ensure travellers get to experience the underbelly of society.

Borat is the creation of British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen and fictional star of the fake documentary, 'Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan'. The book is due for publication November 6, 2007; put it on your Christmas list now.
