There is a medieval city lying in the foothills of the French Pyrenees, not far from the site of pre-historic cave paintings, it is a great base for hiking, climbing, cycling and canoeing on the river Ariege. The city is Mirepoix and it is close to Toulouse, Carcassonne, Foix, Montsegur and Montaillou.
But Mirepoix has another claim to fame, it hosts an international puppet festival, celebrating the marionnette art form, and the
20è Festival International de la Marionnette de Mirepoix en Ariège, will this year take place from 31 July to 3 August, 2008.

27 May - 3 June 2007 is the period of the
World Festival of Puppet Art in Prague, Czech Republic. The city also has a puppetry museum, which is situated in a beautiful old 16th century building next to the Charles Bridge, one of Prague's main tourist attractions.
The puppet festival overlaps with the
Prague Spring International Music Festival, which runs from 12 May to 3 June, 2007.
